EN event 07

Wat Phra Si Sanphet was built in the area of an original location of royal palace in the reign of King Ramathibodi I (King U-Thong). Until King Borom Trailokanat moved the center of royal palace to build again in the north side near Lopburi riverside. He gave an area of old royal palace to be Phutthawat area (the area dedicated to Buddha) in 1991 B.E. for being place where king used for Buddhist ceremonies as well as another ceremony like the Ritual of Water-Consecration. Furthermore, it used for enshrining the royal ashes of king and ashes of royalty.

Inside of the temple consists of the important historical sites, e.g. three bell-shaped stupas being the principle building of the temple. It is the stupa where enshrined the royal ashes of King Borommatrailokkanat (the stupa 1 that located in the east side), the royal ashes of King Boromracha Thirat III (the stupa 2 : the middle stupa), and the royal ashes of King Ramathibodi II (the stupa 3 that located in the west side). In the west side of each main stupa has Mondop. Inside of Mondop of the first stupa had found the Buddha's Footprint.

In the east side of temple is the Royal Viharn where enshrined Phra Si Sanphet, a standing Buddha with 8 meters high and covered with gold inside. When the fall of Ayutthaya, the Buddha statue was destroyed and left only an inner core which is a bronze core. King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke (Rama I) pleased to invite the Buddha statue to enshrine in Si Sanphet Dayan Stupa of Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram, Bangkok.

In the west side of temple has a tetrahedron building which built in the late Ayutthaya period around the reign of King Narai. Inside of the building enshrined the Buddha statue with 4 postures as sitting, standing, reclining, and walking. At present, it left only a Seated Buddha at the eastern balcony which assumed that it is a place where enshrined the ashes of royalty. In addition, it appeared Chedi Rai (small stupa) which is a stupa that enshrined the ashes of royalty around the temple. In the front of each Chedi Rai has the Viharn Rai for being place of royal merit-making called Taksina Nupatan.
