Si Chum Temple is in the north western suburb part of Sukothai. A Mon Dop of the temple is a main construction of the temple. In the Mon Dop installed a Marn Vichai style Buddha image which is assumed to be Phra Vajana referred in the first stone inscription and in the second stone inscription or called “Wat Si Chum Inscription”. Those inscriptions described a legend of the establishment of Sukhothai dynasty. On the ceiling on the Mon Dop found lined pattern on carving stone presenting a jataka; a story of the Buddha in a previous life. The art form is influenced by Lanka art with sukhothai alphabets described in each image. |
