Wat Tra Kuan

event 2018 22
Tra Kuan Temple is located in the north of Chana Songkram temple with a main bell-shaped stupa and a chapel surrounded with a ditch. The temple’s name is assumed to be an original name since the year 2450 B.E. (1907) as an existing evidence found on Sorasak temple’s stone inscription.
The evidence described a tale occurred in the middle of 20th B.E., for example, a story of Mahathera Dhamalok from Down Kon district, who became a Maha Dhammaraja and governed Sukhothai, came to visit his grandchildren and stayed at this temple.
Department of Fine Arts excavated and found some Sukhothai style Buddha images in this temple, and assumed to be an earlier style of Sukhothai Buddha images and named them “Tra Kuan Type Buddha Image”.
