| Mahathat Temple is a royal temple and royal graveyard located in the centric of Sukhothai consist of main stupa, temples, churches, Mon Dops and a rank of 200 stupas. The main stupa was built in Bua Tum style as a unique architecture of Sukhothai, and surrounded with 8 satellite stupas. The 4 stupas situated at four angles received an influence of northern Hariphunchai- Lan Na art. A stupa in the middle of the four stupas is a Prasart stupa in Sukhothai style decorated with stucco in Lanka influence. The base of main stupa is installed limestone sculptures of Buddha disciple monks in a respectful clockwise walking gesture. |
