The name of Prasat Sdok Kok Thom has been changed chronologically by the physical environment. In conclusion, around 2463 B.E., this ancient site was called Prasat Muang Phrao, and then Prasat Sdok Kok Thom in Khmer language that means “Overgrown with large reeds” since 2536 B.E. until the present day.

The Fine Arts Department has surveyed the ancient site and begun the preservation and development project of Prasat Sdok Kok Thom during 2539-2553 B.E. It operated the archaeological work as well as the renovation of ancient site by the method of reassembling to its original condition until it is completed. After that, in 2560 B.E., the Fine Arts Department has announced to establish the project of Prasat Sdok Kok Thom Historical Park to develop and enhance a potential to be the learning center and tourist destination of art and cultural.
